History

Agidigbo 88.7 FM, situated in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, commenced its broadcasts on March 25, 2021. It is under the ownership of Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, who also serves as an on-air presenter. The station, tagged as ‘the people’s voice,’ prides itself on amplifying the concerns of the common man. Founded by Oriyomi Hamzat, a human rights advocate cum broadcaster, it became the first radio station in Ibadan licensed to a broadcast journalist.

Originally operating online, the station transitioned to terrestrial transmission in February 2021 after a fire outbreak razed its online setup in April 2020. It launched full commercial broadcasts on March 15, 2021, and was officially commissioned on March 25, 2021, by the Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, who commended its progress and the goodwill of its founder.

Agidigbo 88.7 FM caters to a diverse audience with shows in Yoruba, English, and Pidgin, emphasizing human angle broadcasting. Notable programs include family arbitration show “Kokoro Alate,” socio-political commentary “Awa Ara Wa and Bo Se Nlo Extra,” and political interviews like “National Discourse,” featuring prominent figures like former Minister for Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, and former governor of Ekiti State, Engr. Segun Oni.

Innovatively, the station appointed 25-year-old Yousuph Adebayo Grey as its Head of Station, setting a record as the youngest in the country. Through investigative shows like “Digging Deep,” Agidigbo 88.7 FM showcases the potential of investigative journalism on radio, prioritizing impactful storytelling over revenue generation.

Within just three months of its inception, Agidigbo 88.7 FM has garnered acclaim for challenging industry norms, particularly with its extensive coverage of the 2021 local government elections in Ibadan. With a strong digital presence, the station is poised to become a leading radio brand in Nigeria.
